Wireless FAQ
Can I connect to BridgeBand's service wirelessly with my laptop?
In most cases, yes. Our service will always be delivered to your home or business through traditional copper wires. However, most of our connections support DSL modems with a built in wireless access point, which allows your laptop to link to your modem wirelessly. Most laptop wireless antennas only have an effective range of about 100 feet. This will be even less if there are walls or other obstructions between your laptop and the modem.
Does BridgeBand wireless service cost more?
There's no additional monthly cost for using a wireless enabled modem with our service. Wireless modems are usually more expensive than non-wireless versions though, so there will be additional setup costs.
I want to have high-speed wireless internet access throughout town and on the go. Is this possible?
BridgeBand does not offer this type of service. Unfortunately, the wireless equipment in most laptops has a maximum range of 100 to 200 feet. Longer ranges are possible, but require more powerful external antennas. As a result, you will need to be fairly close to a wireless "Hot Spot" to get high speed wireless service with a laptop. True "on the go" broadband access does not yet exist in most areas, but newer technologies may make this possible in the near future.
Verizon and some other cellular carriers do offer "on the go" laptop internet connections, but these are typically much slower than DSL and the service quality varies greatly based on distance to the nearest cell tower.
I forgot my wireless password. Can you look it up for me?
Your wireless password is stored within your DSL modem. As a result, we don't have any control over your wireless settings from our office. We reccommend checking with your modem's manufacturer for information on viewing or changing its wireless password.
